Wedding Color Palettes to Try in 2023

February 28, 2023

If you’re a 2023 bride, one of the first things you’ll do after getting engaged and picking a wedding date is choose your color palette. I recommend this be one of the first things you do in your planning process because it determines so many other things – bridesmaid dresses, the groom’s tie, florals, decor, etc. One of my favorite things that I’ve been seeing for 2023 weddings is the color and unique touches that couples have been adding to their day. I’ve seen everything from pizza party receptions in a roller rink, to a desert disco dance party under the stars, to roasting marshmallows by the fire with your lover after all the other guests have left. There are so many ways to plan a wedding that is trendy, eclectic, fun for your guests, and most importantly – emphasizes the things that make your love story, yours.

One of the easiest ways to set your wedding apart from others is to create a color scheme that is eye-catching and fresh. I’m a wedding photographer based in Southern Utah and I’ve photographed about 100 weddings. I’ve compiled some of my favorite wedding color palettes I’ve come across over the years that you can draw inspiration from as you plan your 2023 wedding.

Soft But Still Bright

Using muted, colorful tones is a great option if you want to incorporate color without the color being the center of attention. The tones are beautiful and soft, but still lively, warm, and happy. This would be a perfect spring or summer wedding color palette.

Bold and Edgy

Vibrant tones like these are super in right now. The boldness allows for some fun accents in your decor and florals. One of the things I love about bright colors like these is the excited energy it brings to the day.

Retro

Retro color schemes are another big trend right now. This includes shades of reds and oranges and pinks. It’s fun, it’s spunky, and it’s memorable. Pair this with some disco balls, a record player, and some polaroids and you’ve got the perfect setup for a reception with everyone on the dance floor.

Bold and Colorful

This colorful palette is one of my favorites because of how unique it is. I love seeing a mix of different colors. It’s eclectic and brings so much life to your wedding day.

Bold Warm Tones

This palette is another one of my favorites. Warm tones always add so much life to your photos. And this palette is going to look good in almost any location. I can picture this palette in a fun roller rink reception like I mentioned above, or in an intimate desert ceremony.

Colorful Pastel

This is another muted palette that isn’t quite as colorful as the others. This is a great option if you want something a little softer and a little more neutral, but still incorporates a bit of color.

Neutral and Earthy

The neutral and earthy palette is another super popular color scheme – and for good reason too. This palette is perfect for any outdoor wedding or elopement. These colors will enhance the natural colors in the landscape.

Colorful Earthy

This palette is a more vibrant spin on the one above. It’s earthy, but also incorporates some bold colors to make it a little more unique. This would be a gorgeous palette for a spring or summer wedding.

Where to Incorporate Color in Your Day

Once you choose your color palette, where do you incorporate those colors? Some of my favorite ways are in the invitation suite, seating chart, tablescape, florals, bridesmaid dresses, and the backdrop of your ceremony.
